Embark on a journey to Oak Park, just west of Chicago, where architectural history was made. Together with our guide, we’ll travel from the hotel via public transportation to explore the iconic Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio, the birthplace of a revolution in American architecture.
The ‘L’ train will drop us off in Oak Park and we will have a 15-20 minute walk in the residential neighborhood.
Accessibility Note: The home spans two floors connected by a flight of stairs, and there is no elevator. There are a few steps up to enter the home and to enter the studio.
This two-story residence, built in 1889, was Wright’s first masterpiece—a home where he had complete artistic control. Over two decades, Wright continually experimented with its design, shaping ideas that would define his architectural philosophy for years to come. It was here, in his adjacent studio, that Wright and his associates developed the Prairie style, the first uniquely American architectural approach, inspired by the flat Midwestern landscape.
We will have a guided visit through the beautifully restored home, which reflects the period when Wright and his family lived there before relocating to Wisconsin. From the stunning windows to the innovative use of light and space, every detail showcases Wright’s visionary approach.
Don’t miss the well-curated gift shop, featuring books and Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired items—a perfect way to remember your visit. Whether you’re a dedicated fan or new to Wright’s designs, this tour offers a captivating look at the origins of an architectural legend.
The surrounding area of this suburb boasts the world’s highest concentration of Wright-designed residences, making Oak Park a must-visit for architecture enthusiasts. After the tour, you’re free to linger in Oak Park with your own ‘L’ train ticket, which allows you to explore the charming suburb further. Consider staying for lunch at one of the many restaurants near the train station before returning to downtown Chicago at your own pace. Or return to the hotel with our guide, arriving back at the hotel between 12:30-1:00 PM.
